Ki Enthus Susmono
Ki Enthus Susmono is innovative, funny, crude, political and socially critical. He is also an astonishingly creative storyteller and a skillful puppet maker.
In November 2006, Pim Westerkamp (curator of the Tropenmuseum) and Lejo Schenk (director of the Tropenmuseum) paid a visit to Jakarta. At the invitation of friends of Westerkamp they visited an exhibition of modern wayang shadow theatre where Ki Enthus Susmono was displaying his puppets, which portrayed world leaders, comic strip characters and superheroes. Both were so impressed by this inventive wayang performer and his amazing puppets that they decided to mount an exhibition of this contemporary expression of cultural heritage in the Tropenmuseum. And so the Wayang Superstar exhibition was prepared. It opened in the Tropenmuseum on 31 January and ran to 2 August 2009. The exhibition proved to be a perfect opportunity for a collaboration with the Tropentheater, where Ki Enthus gave breathtaking performances of Dewa Ruci on 19 and 20 June 2009, in the Light Hall.
Nieuws
Ki Enthus is currently working on a new creation called; ‘Wayang rai dalang’. He's using wellknown wayang players for the shape of the puppets. Indonesia has 100 wellknown puppetplayers and Ki Enthus will use the portrait of 67 of them. Ki Enthus is hoping that the puppetplayers will then descide to perform as themselves aside the puppets in the show.
