Tropentheater regularly organises meal-and-performance package deals in cooperation with Soeterijn theatre café-restaurant. These consist of an evening meal in Soeterijn and a performance in the theatre. These are part of our Film & Food and Music & Food series. Dates and times can be found in our season brochure and monthly leaflet, and are available on request from the box office (+31 20 5688 500).

  • Can I park my car nearby?

There are ample paid parking spaces in the vicinity.
If you are attending a performance at the Tropentheater, on display of your ticket you can park free in the Hotel NH Tropen car park, space permitting.
Two parking spaces on the museum grounds are reserved for disabled guests. Available only on display of a disabled person's (parking) permit.

  • Are there special seating arrangements for wheelchair-users or the hard of hearing?

There are no places set aside for the hard of hearing. The acoustics in the Small Hall and the Great Hall are such that sound quality is good everywhere. There are places reserved for wheelchairs in both halls. If you wish to make use of one, please call and inform the box office a few days in advance at +31 20 5688 500.

  • Why do I have to pay a reservation fee when I order tickets?

The ticket delivery service incurs administration and packaging costs. Providing the electronic payment service on this website also costs money. Furthermore, box office staff-members check all these payments daily, and ensure all tickets are sent correctly.

  • What happens if a performance is cancelled?

If a performance is cancelled we do our utmost to contact everyone who has bought a ticket or made a reservation for the performance, to inform them of the situation as speedily as possible. Initially, we do this by telephone. If there is no answer we send an email. If we are unable to reach everyone, a representative of the Tropentheater will be present at the original starting time, to inform those arriving of the situation.

The Tropentheater offers the following possible solutions:

    • Visitors may attend a comparable – in some cases specially booked – replacement performance
tickets can be exchanged for Tropentheater gift vouchers
    • Ticket price can be refunded
    • Cancellations and any replacement performance will be announced as quickly as possible in the Events Calendar.

  • What is the relationship between the tropentheater, the Tropenmuseum and KIT?

The acronym KIT stands for Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen, or Royal Tropical Institute. The Institute is an independent knowledge and expertise centre for international and intercultural co-operation. The institute is made up of various departments. Each department is, in its own way, active in the areas of sustainable development, poverty reduction, cultural preservation and cultural exchange.

The Tropentheater and the Tropenmuseum are two such KIT departments (hence their original names KIT Tropentheater and KIT Tropenmuseum). Although they often collaborate on joint projects, neither department is part of the other. They can best be viewed as siblings.

More information can be found on the Tropenmuseum and KIT websites.

  • What are the benefits of KIT membership and the KIT card?

Membership of the KIT Association entitles you to discounts on some of our products and services – or even free use of them. For example, your KIT card entitles you to a discount on Tropentheater performances for two people. You will also receive detailed information about KIT activities, every month.

For more information consult the KIT card page.
