TATO MARENCO Y VÍA 40
Irresistible Colombian rhythms
Composer and percussionist Tato Marenco is one of Columbia’s greatest musicians. Like most of his band members, he hails from the port Barranquilla, in the north of the country. The name of the band, Via 40, derives from the famous entertainment district in Barranquilla. Its location on the coast means that the city is open to a rich medley of musical styles from the surrounding Caribbean islands. Toto la Momposina, the greatest star of Columbian music, took the young Tato under her wing for three years while she toured the world. But now Tato Marenco no longer needs this support - he is perfectly capable of generating great enthusiasm among his audiences on his own.
