Virtuoso Russian gypsy music
Sergei Erdenko, the founder of the Loyko trio, is a member of one of Russia’s oldest gypsy families - and an extremely musical family it is, too. His great grandfather taught violin at the Moscow Conservatory and Sergei started learning how to play the violin at the age of 5. The other two members of the trio (violin and guitar) also had a thorough classical training, where they displayed a great interest in gypsy music. Their music has a resulting refinement that is frequently lacking in gypsy music, but that has not lost its passion. Loyko has performed with many of the world’s musical greats (including Gidon Kremer, Yehudi Menuhin, Ravi Shankar and Mstislav Rostropovitsj) on some of the most prestigious stages in the world.
